better living through video games?
I used to play video games a lot when I was younger.
I didn’t play a lot of games, and I wasn’t a gamer or even really any good at any of the games. I didn’t try to improve what skills and knowledge I had. I usually played on the easiest difficulty setting. I rarely played with other people and I preferred it if most people didn’t know I was playing games at all. But...
The Music Diary Project
bmichael:
Former Stylus Magazine musicophile Nick Southall has proposed an interesting project. From his blog, Sick Mouthy:
I’m going to suggest the first full week of April (Monday 4th to Sunday 10th) for this little social experiment, and I want you to join in. If you’re a music fan, writer, lover, maker, or whatever, and you keep a blog or website of any kind, join in. For a full week...
Don't say rape when you don't mean rape. (TRIGGER... →
There are many things rape is not:
consensual sex
affectionate contact
a bear hug
a tackle
eye contact
an argument
a surprise
overburdening
an athletic loss
a neutral metaphor
There are only a few things rape is:
forcing sex on a person
despoiling a population or place
[a mustard plant or grape residue]
No one rapes your Internet connection, or rapes you in a debate. No one rapes...

tollund

narakaloka
If there’s an aspect of my life that hasn’t been taken over by the Mountain Goats I don’t know what it is.

I saved this years ago because I really liked it. And I keep coming back to it, because I still really like it.
Something about expressions-of-self like this really gets to me. That thing where you’re supposed to pick your favourite album for each year you’ve been alive is different, but related.
Maybe I’ll end up doing something autobiographical after all.

I seem to occupy a place where tomboy and girly man overlap, to the degree that “girl or boy?” is a nonsense question.

a note on movies
andrewtsks:
oldtobegin:
there are a lot of movies i haven’t seen! i usually don’t bring them up or note that i haven’t seen them because people tend to make fun of me or do that gaaaaaaaaaaaaasp “you haven’t seen that????? how is that possible????” which makes me feel about two inches tall.
it’s not that i am not into film—actually, i love watching/discussing/thinking about movies—but rather...

people, people, the word is “regressive”!
(as in, what the Privilege Denying Dude meme actually is instead of the “progressive” (as if that ever meant anything in itself) political statement it’s thought to be. even though I would not use the word myself, I approve of raptoravatar’s one-step-back-two-steps-forward approach...
whoops!
almost posted on the internet about feelings just then.

Sneer at your boyfriend for “looking like a girl” when he does something that’s not 100% macho.
Denigrate people for wearing “jeggings” and other things you don’t find attractive (because that is THE WORST THING).
Assume that a driver doing something weird is Asian (but it’s not racist! they totally WERE Asian!)
